| | Born in Hanover, Germany on Jan. 14, 1866. Funk studied at the Royal Academy in Munich. After coming to the U.S. in 1885, he continued at the ASL in NYC. He then was a pen-and-ink illustrator for the New York Herald and such magazines as Scribner’s, Harper’s, and Century. For a few months during winter of 1909-10 he painted portraits in San Francisco, Sacramento, and Carmel. He then was active in NYC into the 1920s.
