| Born in San Francisco, CA in 1881. Alida was the daughter of Domingo Ghirardelli, founder of the famed chocolate factory. Artistically inclined at an early age, she first studied art locally with Chris Jorgensen who had wed her aunt, Angela. She further studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute and in Europe where she painted a series of Venetian canal scenes. She was a resident of 3000 Pacific Avenue until the earthquake destroyed most of San Francisco in 1906. Leaving her native city, she moved to the Monterey Peninsula. While swimming in the ocean near her home in Carmel, she drowned on Aug. 16, 1909 at age 28. Exh: Sketch Club (SF), 1907-09; Del Monte Art Gallery, 1907-09. In: Society of Calif.
