| Angelo N. Gepponi was born in the province of Arezzo in Tuscany, Italy
on February 3, 1911. He moved to America at a young age and studied art
at the National Academy of Design in New York City. His earliest
awards include the Tiffany Fellowship Award and two Silver Medals while
studying at the National Academy of Design.
He later joined the Armed Forces, and after returning home, he received
a B.A. and M.A. at the New York University School of Education,
graduating 'cum laude'. Gepponi also studied in Amagansett, New
York with Victor D'Amico of the Museum of Modern Art. He
participated in a European Art Study Program with Dr. Jack Arends of
Northern Illinois University, where he studied in Lucca, Italy.
While in Italy he studied with Professor John Del Monte from the
University of Pittsburgh. Later he studied at the Arts Student's
League in New York City.
Gepponi was a member of the Society of Independent Artists, the Hudson
Artists, the American Artists Professional League, the Hudson Valley
Art Association, the New Jersey Education Association, the National
Education Association, the New Jersey Art Education, and the National
Art Education. He help organize the New Jersey Art Education
conventions in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, at the Society
of Independent Artists 1940-1941, at Paterson State University, at the
Allied Artists of America, at the Audubon Artists, at the Connecticut
Academy of Fine Arts, at the Brooklyn Museum of Fine Art, at the Bronx
County Courthouse, at the Painters and Sculptors of New Jersey, at the
Northridge Art Gallery in Ridgefield, Connecticut, at the Artists
Showplace Cooperative in Lake Worth, Florida, and at the New York
International Show where he was awarded a Silver Medal. He received
many awards during his lifetime, including, Honorable Mention at the
Norton Art Museum Artist Guild Show in West Palm Beach, Florida, awards
at the Hudson Artists Exhibition, and at the American Artists
Professional League.
Gepponi studied the life and art of Michelangelo and lecture red on his
four phases of art, including other famous Italian artists. His works
are represented in many private and public collections throughout the
US and in Europe.
Angelo N. Gepponi died in Lake Worth, Florida on October 11, 2001.
