| Born in Berlin Germany in 1869. After graduating from the University of Berlin, Genthe moved to San Francisco in 1895. There he established himself as a portrait photographer of celebrities. He also did a series of Chinatown genre, which was published as Old Chinatown, and scenes of the destruction caused by the 1906 earthquake. In 1911 he moved to NYC where he pioneered in dance photography, producing Book of the Dance (1916) and Isadora Duncan (1929). He penned his memoir called As I Rem (showing 500 of 925 characters). |
