Portraitist Bernard Godwin, born in 1900 of Russian ancestry, was a painter of the rich and famous. Hollywood celebrities, scientists, military men and the Pope, sat patiently while his brush described them in conventionally realistic form. Godwin's portraits of Albert Einstein, Generals George Marshall and Dwight Eisenhower, and Pope John XXIII may be found in sites as diverse as the Vatican, West Point and Presidential Libraries.
