| Born in Germany in 1870, he received two years of formal art training at the Imperial Academy in Berlin. Mr Gebauer was instensely interested in restoring valuable old paintings and giving them nearly the same life and character the original artist created. Charles painted the inaugual painting of President Roosevelt. At the age of 22 Charles came to the United States and continued his studies in New York City. He was a great admirer of John Singer Sargent.
