This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Little is known of this landscape painter except that he attended Yale
College but left because of eye problems. He remained in his home
in Gaylordsville, Connecticut until his death on October 26, 1862, when
he was gored by a bull when he was painting a farm scene.
He was a good friend of several Hudson River painters including Thomas
Cole and Jasper Cropsey. It is thought that he was self taught as
an artist but likely was influenced by the Hudson River School of
painting.
