Chester Alan Gash was born in New York City in 1906. A successful restaurateur and designer, Gash owned several New York restaurants, including Tim’s Restaurant and part ownership of the Virginia Forbes Restaurant. He designed both establishments. Gash also owned a farm in Stockton, New Jersey, several miles up river from New Hope. There, he would often escape the hustle and bustle of the city to spend time on his painting.
