| Born in Carbondale, CO on Sept. 20, 1901. Claribel Renick settled in Los Angeles in the 1920s. While at Otis Art Institute, she met Louis Gaffney whom she wed in 1928. She further studied with Roger Noble Burnham, Harold Swartz, and Merrell Gage. During the Depression she sculpted a fountain for the Ruth Home in El Monte for the Federal Art Project and worked in the art department at MGM Studios.
