This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from the artist who lives in Batavia, New York.

Don Grieger began his painting career in the 1970's, and apart from a few workshops taken then, is basically self taught. He works primarily in oils and specializes in landscapes done on location.

He is a native of Niles, MI and holds BSE and MS Degrees in Engineering from the University of Michigan and the Air Force Institute of Technology. He served in the Air Force but discovered painting while working as an Engineering Manager in the private sector. He quickly realized that painting would be more than a casual hobby and wanted to devote more time to developing his ability so he accepted a job as Professor of Technical Sciences at a community college where his schedule allowed the flexibility needed to embark on a serious painting career.

He has since left teaching and now paints full time. During the summers of 1986 through 1991 he and his wife Louise, a writer, operated the GRIEGER GALLERY in the Rocky Neck Art Colony, Gloucester, MA.

His paintings have been entered in many national and regional juried exhibitions over the last twenty five years, and he is a frequent award winner. He exhibits regularly at the Salmagundi Club in NYC and participates in the annual invitational shows at the Mary Bryan Memorial Gallery in Jeffersonville, VT. He has had many successful one, two and three man shows and he also paints and exhibits with The All Weather Gang, a group of six plein air painters from the western NY region.

His work hangs in corporate, public and private collections in thirty five states and throughout Canada as well as in Europe, South America and Australia.

His paintings and his view on painting have appeared in American Artist Magazine on several occasions. In January 1992, in the article "A Conversation With Don Grieger" by Charles Movalli, and in the November 1994 issue a painting vacation aboard a canal boat was covered in the article "Fifty Miles On The Erie Canal". In the March 1999 issue he was featured in the article "The French Canadian Connection". He has also been the subject of articles in Palette Talk, Where in Boston? and Upstate New Yorker magazines.

The professional organizations he holds membership in include Salmagundi Club, NYC, American Artists Professional League (Fellow), NYC, the North Shore Arts Association, Gloucester, MA, the Fine Arts League, Buffalo, NY, the Rochester Art Club, Rochester, NY and the International Society of Marine Painters, Melbourne, FL.
