EDWARD GARBELY (1908-1999)

Edward Garbely was born on August 15, 1908 in Newark, New Jersey.  He was best known for his harbor scenes, seascapes, landscapes.  He studied at the Newark School of Fine & Industrial Art, including with John R. Grabach, A. H. Trouck, and Alexander Baranowski.  He also studied with noted artist Emil Gruppe and NY artist Dorothy Koppelman.

He was a member of the New Jersey Society of Painters & Sculptors, the East Orange Art Club, the Irvington Art & Museum Association, the Art Club of the Oranges, and the American Artists Professional League

He exhibited at the Montclair Art Museum, the Newark Museum, the NJ State Museum, the Newark Art Club, the National Academy of Design, the Irvington Art & Museum Association, at the New York World's Fair 1939, the Audubon Artist, the East Orange Art Club, and the Society of Independent Artists.

Garbely's work is represented at Newark University, the Newark City Hall, the Rutherford, New Jersey Town Hall, and the Marlboro State Teachers College.

He lived in Lakehurst, New Jersey for most of his life and moved to New Port Richey in 1987.

Edward Garbely died at Heather Hill Nursing Home in New Port Richey, Florida on January 26, 1999 at the age of 90.
