| | Born on a ranch near San Jose, CA on Dec. 7, 1859, the son of David Ellison Gish. The younger Gish took drawing lessons from Emma Q. Bennett as a teenager and later studied for one year in San Francisco at the School of Design under Virgil Williams and Raymond Yelland. While earning his living as a house painter, he painted fine art in his leisure. He later moved to southern California and settled in Van Nuys. He died there on April 20, 1953. Exh: Calif.
