This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A painter of some of the earliest and most effective watercolors done in the United States, she had an aggressive style that differed from most female watercolorists of that time. She was an amateur and prolific, completing about fifty paintings of a variety of themes including genre and religious subjects.
She was born in Simsbury, Connecticut to wealthy, cultured parents. She was married twice and raised five children, living in Windsor, Connecticut where she was an active community person.
It is likely she did most of her paintings after age thirty as her style seems mature and confident.
