This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Frank A. Goodnow was born in Evanston, Illinois.  He served with the U.S. Army during WWII. He attended Northwestern University and graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1948.

Goodnow was awarded a fellowship to study abroad in France where he turned his attention to abstract painting in Ecole des Beaux - Arts in Paris.  He came to Syracuse University in 1950 to teach painting, drawing, watercolor, and the study of color.  He also instructed several summer semesters for SU in London and Florence. Goodnow's painting have appeared in galleries throughout the nation including: The Zenith Gallery of Washington, D.C., Art Institute of Chicago, and the Library of Congress.

He had works in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Everson Museum of Art, and New York State University.

Goodnow was listed in the Who's Who in American Art and The New York Art Review.  He retired from S.U. in 1988 after a 38 year tenure.

Frank A. Goodnow died on October 1, 2004 at the age of 80.
