This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in St Louis, Missouri in October 1881, Frederick Galdstone Gray studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts and in Paris at Académie Julian under Jean Paul Laurens.  Except for 1909 when his address was New York City, he was a resident of his native city until about 1917.

From Chicago, where he taught at the AIC, he moved to northern California about 1920.  During the 1920s he was an instructor at the Carmel Arts & Crafts Club while residing in Monterey in the Lara Adobe, often called "The Bandit House".

By 1932 he was a teacher at the American Academy of Art in Chicago.  His track is then lost.  His work includes landscapes and portraits.
