| George Balthazar Gardner (1835-1905) moved to the United States from Germany around 1852. He is known to have worked as an artist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Buffalo, New York and Detroit, Michigan.
George Gardner taught at Adrian College in Port Huron, Michigan and was the art department chair at Hillsdale College in Michigan from 1867-1900.
The artist traveled extensively in Europe and the United States and exhibited in Michigan in the 1870s.
