Born in San Francisco, CA on March 26, 1884. Gertrude's father had come from Holland where the family were noted artists (his brother, Arnold Marc Gorter, was court painter to Queen Wilhelmina). In
San Francisco, the Gorters were close friends of other Dutch families, including that of craftsman Dirk Van Erp. After graduation in 1906 from the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art, she taught art at Miss Paul's School until her marriage to artist Thomas McGlynn in 1909. She th (showing 500 of 705 characters). |
