| | Born in Campertogno, Italy in 1834. Gianoli started out as a gesso and plaster worker in France where he had immigrated as a young man. When in his thirties, he returned to Italy and enrolled at Academia Albertina in Turin. Shortly thereafter, the desire to travel led him to France, Egypt, India, Australia, London, and the U.S. He taught drawing in Boston and in 1887 was a resident of San Francisco where he advertised as a portraitist.
