| Granizo was born in San Francisco. He lived in Nicaragua and Guatemala for eleven years. He graduated from the San Francisco College of Art, and then served as Art Director of KRON TV in San Francisco, until 1959, where he bagan a career as a producer of educational films.
When Stonelight Tile in San Jose, California accepted him as their resident artist in 1970, Granizo devoted all of his energies to the rendering of creative uses of colored glazes, and from that time devoted his career to being a ceramic tile muralist.
