This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Corunna, MI in 1848. Hattie’s father came to California in 1849 with the Gold Rush. He returned to Michigan and in 1859 the Green family made the overland trek to California in a covered wagon. Settling in San Francisco, Hattie and her sister Eva grew up and attended public school there. Her father had become a successful financier and provided well for his family. Early in life Hattie showed a marked talent for art and in 1872 she and Eva went to Europe for art studies in Florence, Munich, and Paris. While in Munich, Hattie posed for Toby Rosenthal's well-known painting Elaine. Hattie was a pupil of Wm Keith in 1881-85 and, under his guidance, became a competent painter of still lifes and landscapes. Member: SFAA.
