From my own genealogical observations I know that the Gruson family came most probably to Magdeburg as refugees from France (Huguenots).

Johann David Gruson was better known as an owner of a publishing house than as a painter. The museum Gleimhaus at Halberstadt is a good contact for information about the artist.
