| Born in Breslau, Germany on May 28, 1905. Gutmann was a pupil of Otto Mueller and attended the State Academy of Arts & Crafts in Breslau. Due to anti-Semitism and the rise of Hitler, in 1933 he immigrated to San Francisco where he exhibited and painted until the 1940s. He was an instructor of art history, drawing, and painting at San Francisco State College from 1938-73. While there, he founded the creative photography program. Internationally known as a photographer, he died in San Francis (showing 500 of 905 characters). |
