A painter, teacher, and writer, Karl Gasslander, was born in Rockford, Illinois, and was the art critic for the Evanston Daily News, and taught at the Evanston Collegiate Institute.
He attended the Art Students League in New York, and in Illinois the Art Institute of Chicago and the Northwestern University School of Art.
He was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists, the Chicago Society of Printmakers, and was a WPA artist under Louis Cheskin.
