Noted primarily as a muralist, portrait painter and teacher active in Chicago, Louis Grell was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was an instructor at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, having studied at the School of Applied Art in Hamburg, Germany, and in Munich, Germany at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and with Carl Von Marr.
Grell painted numerous portraits and completed numerous mural commissions in Chicago and other places including the Union Station and Mark Twain Hotel in St. Louis (showing 500 of 1231 characters). |
