| Active in New Orleans from 1870 to 1892, Louis Girault was a painter of landscapes of local scenery in oil, gouache, watercolor, and pastel, but he was also listed in city directories as a cigar and tobacco merchant, and a cooper. He was a member of the Artists' Association of New Orleans and was an admirer of local artist, Richard Clague.
