From James Brown: "I received the following biographical information when I purchased a drawing from a friend of hers last year (2002).

Louise Lewis Gilbert studied at the University of Washington.

Exhibitions at the Seattle Art Museum, Henry Gallery, Oakland Art Gallery, Oakland
California, Portland Oregon Art Museum, Grant Galleries New York, and
Ketchikan Alaska. Early member Women Painters of Washington, Northwest
Watercolor Society.

She was an acquaintance of Mark Tobey's and several other members of the Northwest School. (the seller of the drawing had several correspondences between Louise and Mark.)
The following is from "Who Was Who in American Art" by Peter Falk:

Born in Seattle, Washington, Louise Gilbert was a painter and etcher, who remained based in Seattle. She studied at the University of Washington with Eustace Ziegler, Leon Derbyshire, Mark Tobey, and Ambrose Patterson.

Among her exhibition venues were the Seattle Art Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy, the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle, and the Northwest Water Color Society. she was Director of the Frederick and Nelson Little Gallery in Seattle.
