| Born in Dublin, Ireland in September 1894. Gibney studied in London with Sir William Orpen. He immigrated to California in 1910 and settled in San Francisco in 1930, following a stint at sea and jobs as a laborer in Hollywood. After establishing a studio in the “Monkey Block” (now the Transamerica Pyramid), he painted many portraits as well as seascapes while working as a bartender at Vesuvio's. Greatly influenced by the Old Masters, he tended to paint in the darker tones. His portraits are (showing 500 of 796 characters). |
