| Margaret Goddard Carlson attended the Art Students League in New York from 1898 to 1899. She was a member of the artist's colony in Woodstock. In 1913 she married John F Carlson and the two took many painting trips together to Colorado Springs, Colorado and Gloucester, Massachusetts.
Early in her career she designed textiles and illustrated a children's book, "The Making of Meenie" (1904).
