The following information was submitted in August of 2006 by the artist:

Born on March 17, 1949 in Missouri, she makes her residence since 1965 in Kansas City.  Gillespie attended the Kansas City Art Institute and studied portrait art at Harry Fredman Studio and Longview Community College. 

After 30 years of working for Hallmark Cards, she is now painitng full-time, devoting much of her time to promoting public and private awareness and appreciation of art created by African American artists.
