This biography from the Archives of AskART:
New Orleans artist Martha Guthrie's still life paintings are watercolors of superb compositions with an exacting attention to detail.

Guthrie studied art in Memphis at Rhodes College and at the Memphis Academy of Art. She also studied at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, McCrady's Art School in New Orleans and the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. She has also attended many workshops given by well known artists including Auseklis Ozols, M. Douglas Walton, Robert E. Wood, Millard Sheets, George Post, Rex Brandt and Milford Zornes.

Guthrie credits her best training to the 15 years she spent painting on Jackson Square in the French Quarter catering to New Orleans' tourists.

Martha Guthrie has exhibited at many national and regional juried shows in Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. She also exhibited with the Audubon Artists in New York City and the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors in Old Forge, New York.
