| | Born in San Francisco on Dec. 25, 1854, the daughter of Samuel and Margaret (Harris) Harding. Mary's father had arrived with the Gold Rush in 1849, "struck it rich" and then served as the first inspector at the Custom House. Mary married John Gamage in 1875 and in 1881 studied painting with Wm Keith. She was active in the 1920s as a civic leader and women's suffrage crusader.
