This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Nava Grunfeld, painter of hyper-intensely-colored watercolor still-lifes, was born in Stockholm, Sweden and lives in western Massachusetts. She received a B.F.A. degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where she studied with Elizabeth Osborne, and an M.A. degree from Smith College. Artists Jean Dobie and Sondra Freckelton have been personally encouraging and helpful.

Grunfeld's favorite artists are colorists Matisse and Bonnard, but she also responds to the work of Janet Fish, Joseph Raphael, Carolyn Brady and Francesco Clemente.
A graphic artist by training and occupation, she comes by her interest in design and abstract color relationships naturally.

Initially an oil painter, Grunfeld, a self-taught watercolorist, started using the latter medium in the early 1990s, discovering she liked to place her still-life objects on the floor. While she will draw from life, Grunfeld paints essentially from slides projected on her paper. Her still-lifes of glassware and fruit on plates and in bowls, painted looking directly down on them, are intentionally gaudy and decorative, the color intensities heightened to melodramatic levels.

Nava Grunfeld has exhibited at the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society and National Academy of Design, in New York City.
