Pelham Davis Glassford was born in 1883 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, son of Col. William Glassford and Allie Seymour Davis. (Col. Glassford was to later have a mountain near Phoenix, Arizona named after him in recognition of his work in the Signal Corp.) Pelham was brown-eyed, handsome, and reached a height of six feet four inches. He went to public schools in Washington, DC, and in 1900, enrolled in West Point Academy where he graduated youngest in his class.
