This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born and raised in New Mexico, Reid Galey was influenced by the active art scene there. During his high school and college years, he had his own production pottery studio but turned to painting after a severe injury left him unable to work on the potter's wheel.

Galey attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and earned BA degrees in art education, history and social studies. Galey worked as a junior high teacher in New Mexico before turning to painting full time.

Reid Galey is a self-taught artist, though he has taken workshops with noted artists Kevin Macpherson, John Budicin and Scott Christensen.

He loves to paint mountains, lakes, and also canyons and deserts of the Southwest and as a resident of Minnesota, finds inspiration in the long winters.

Added note:
Reid Galey passed on January 19, 2010 at his home in Minnesota.
