| | Born in Oakland, CA on Sept. 23, 1898. Gillette began sketching at age 19 while hospitalized with an illness. By 1924 he had settled in Fresno, CA where he produced artwork for local theaters until 1935. He then worked for 30 years as a draftsman and deputy assessor for the county of Fresno. He died there on June 30, 1989. His pen-and-ink drawings appeared in the Fresno Bee.
