Richard Saltonstall Greenough, born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1819, was a noted sculptor of the Victorian era. Educated there at the Latin School, Greenough decided, at seventeen, to follow his brother in a career in sculpture. In 1837, he left for Italy, where Horatio Greenough (brother) had already established a reputation. Thereafter he divided his time between Europe and America, but spent most of his studio life in Rome. In Florence, like so many young artists before him, he drew (showing 500 of 2134 characters). |
