Robert Grilley has taught at the University of Wisconsin in Madison since 1945, where he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He was born in 1920 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He has been an airplane pilot for twenty-five years and served in the Air Force from 1942-1945. He flew thirty bombing missions over Germany as a B-17 lead navigator and received the Distinguished Flying Cross.
