Robert Grilley has taught at the University of Wisconsin in Madison since 1945, where he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He was born in 1920 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He has been an airplane pilot for twenty-five years and served in the Air Force from 1942-1945. He flew thirty bombing missions over Germany as a B-17 lead navigator and received the Distinguished Flying Cross.
His work has been exhibited widely throughout the country and was included in "New Talent USA." sponsored by Art in America magazine in 1957. The following year he was included in the International Festival of the Arts at Spoleto, Italy. He has had one-man shows in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, and his work is in several hundred private and public collections.
