This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Sallie Meredith Gillespie was born in Fort Worth, Texas on January 10, 1898.  Gillespie graduated from Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans with a bachelor of arts in design.  She then further studied at the University of Chicago and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  She then taught in the Philadelphia public schools before returning to continue teaching in Fort Worth at the School of Fine Arts.  During the 1940s she was head of the art department at Texas Wesleyan College.  A spinster, she died in Taos, New Mexico in January 1991.
