| | Born in London, England in 1816. Gasking was for many years an editorial writer on the New York Herald and World. By the 1890s he had settled in San Francisco. As well as a painter, he was also a poet. He died in Santa Cruz, CA on Aug. 28, 1905. Exh: Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1896 (portraits of Joseph LeConte and James Lick).
