Folk artist (Samuel) Wood Gaylor was born in 1883 and died in 1957. Papers of writer and editor Jean Lipman in the Art Archives of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., relate to an article by her on Wood Gaylor. He had a show, "Paintings and Drawings by Wood Gaylor", at the Thumb Box Gallery, in New York City, in 1915 and 1916, and New York galleries continue to handle his work.
