Stephen Gjertson, born 1949, is a Classical Realist painter. He enrolled at the University of Minnesota, but left to pursue more traditional studio training. Subsequently, he studied with Richard Lack in the latter’s Minneapolis atelier.
Gjertson has remained in Minnesota.
He is a founding member, and one of the sixteen full Guild Artists of the American Society of Classical Realism. He has received awards, including three Greenshields grants.
His work has been included in "East Coast Ideals, West Coast Concepts", exhibited in three west coast museums; and "Beauty: A Rebirth of Excellence", and the "ASCR Guild of Artists" exhibitions at the Newington Cropsey Foundation. He has been the subject of a book, Timeless Treasure: The Art of Stephen Gjertson, and has served as an editorial advisor for the Classical Realism Journal. |
