Part of the first cohesive group of Classical Realists that studied in the Atelier Lack in Minneapolis, Stephen Gjertson, genre and still-life painter, was there from 1971 to 1975.
He is a founding member of the American Society of Classical Realism Guild and an editorial advisor for the Journal of that organization. In 2000, he served as President of the organization.
