The following, submitted September 2004, is from Jeremy Gilien, son of the artist.

Ted Gilien Biography

1914 Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., March 17

1932-33 Studied at Art Student's League and National Academy of Design in N.Y.C.

1934-38 Federal Arts Project as mural and easel painter

1939 Post Office mural, Lees Summit, MO.

1940-42 Shipyard worker, San Pedro, CA.

1942-46 Combat artist,U.S. Army, South Pacific Theatre. Covered Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings

1946-65 Twenty one-man shows on West Coast

1951 Published The Price, 50 anti-war paintings and drawings

1954 New York show at Associated American Artists

1949-60 A Visual History of the Maccabees, 180 paintings and drawings

1932-65 Exhibited in over 500 shows. Represented in over 400 public and private collections. Recipient of 26
major awards.

1946-65 Taught at Chouinard, Kann, Palos Verdes, Westside Jewish Community Center, University of Judaism

1963 Feature story in American Artist Magazine

1965- One-man shows: International Design Center, L.A.; L.A. Sports Arena; Heritage Gallery, L.A.;
Renaissance Gallery, Beverly Hills

1965 Awarded First Purchase Prize, California State Fair

1967 Died in Los Angeles, March 11
