Tyson Grumm grew up in Albany, Oregon. He had two interests as a
child---basketball and drawing. He earned basketball
scholarships, which brought him to Southern Oregon University where he
earned a bachelor's degree in fine art in 1996.
After graduation and a job at National Car Rental, Grumm joined
Oregon's Blackfish Gallery in Portland. An artist cooperative,
Grumm paid $40 a month to be in the gallery and share in the work of
running it.
