Born in Colusa, California on Feb. 14, 1887, Adelaide Cutler Hickok began drawing at age five. After moving to San Francisco in 1904, she studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute under C. Chapel Judson while working as a secretary.
She became the wife of civil engineer Clifton Hickok in 1912 and then spent the next year on a reservation in Arizona where she made many studies of the Navajos.
Returning to California, the Hickoks moved to Alameda, and in 1937 settled in Berkel (showing 500 of 793 characters). |
