Alfred Worsley Holdstock (1820 – 1901)
A painter and educator, Alfred Worsley Holdstock was born in Bath, England and died in Montreal, Canada. He was educated at Oxford University, England and immigrated to Montreal in 1850. There, he taught drawing at the Government National School and privately (c.1852 – 1873), after which he turned to painting full time.
His mediums were pastel, watercolor and oil. His subjects were primarily landscapes and genre* depicting the wilderness of Q (showing 500 of 3708 characters). |
