While in Laurel, Maryland, she was a volunteer art teacher in the Prince Georges County Public Schools for 14 years. She was the official portrait painter for the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and contributed over 65 portraits of scoutmasters and various patches and memorabilia.

Hanna was Director of the Savage Mill Art Gallery for 12 years and had a studio at the Mill for 17 years.

Throughout her career, she has continued to take workshops with watercolorists including: Edgar Whitney, Charles Reid, Robert Wood, Domenic DeStefano, Zoltan Szabo, Carlton Plummer, Rudy De Renya, Janet Walsh, G.A.
