Born in Chicago, Illinois and a resident from 1927 of Nashville, Indiana, Arthur Humpal was a reclusive man who was part of the Brown County, Indiana art colony. He claimed that he never sold a painting, and when he was placed in a nursing home, 500 paintings were in his possession.
