A prominent architect in Chicaga affiliated with the Arts and Crafts movement, Augustus Higginson studied at Harvard University and in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. When he returned to establish his practice in Chicago, his peers were Frank Lloyd Wright and H.H. Richardson, and emphasis was on homes being designed as total environments with aesthetic appeal combined with practicality.
Higginson was unique for his use of natural colors, textures and building materials including thick (showing 500 of 922 characters). |
