| Ayres Houghtelling was born in Defiance, OH on Feb. 12, 1912. When a teenager Houghtelling settled in Palo Alto and was educated at Stanford University. He worked in San Francisco until the bombing of Pearl Harbor. During WWII he was a cartographer for the OSS and after the war settled in NYC where he vacillated between painting, architecture and transportation design. Ayres Houghtelling died in New York City on May 27, 2006
He is currently living in NYC and still painting. His fine art includes a series of Shakespeare and religious paintings.
