Born in New York, Barbara Herbert was a sculptor, primarily of portrait
busts, and of painting, especially floral subjects but also landscapes
and portraits. She was also one of Americas foremost finger
painters.
Herbert was a resident of San Francisco from the 1930s
through the 1950s, and had a solo exhibit at the De Young Museum in
1952 of oil florals and pastel portraits. In 1930, she exhibited
at the Paris Salon where she won an honorable mention for sculpture.
